Lorina McLaughlin: career memories

How did you end up driving all these cars? What’s your background in motorsport?

I started my racing career in Formula Ford and came up through the ranks basically. I’ve driven various cups, Formula 3, Formula Atlantic, everything. But mainly single seaters. I’ve driven sports cars but single seaters has always been my forte. I love single seaters.

Any particular race that sticks in the mind?

I love Monaco. Monaco is my favourite circuit. I like street circuits, because I’m a very precise driver and I hate going over the kerbs. I’m more a Jenson than a Lewis type driver. I love street circuits. Pau was my favourite circuit prior to driving at Monaco. I’d like to drive at Monaco every week.

When was your first time at Monaco?

It was 2004, something like that. It was a historical Formula 1 race. And I’ve raced 3 times in Monaco in my McLaren. I came 8th out of 36 starters. And then I had a problem, but anyway.

Tell me about going through the tunnel?

The tunnel is phenomenal. It’s going into the dark really and then coming out into the bright light at the end and coming down, oh it’s just mind blowing.
