George Copeland: marshalling at Silverstone

In the days when on the Club circuit at Silverstone the return to the pits ran right against the retaining wall on the inside of the (old) Woodcote Corner, one flag marshal got annoyed that during the race one particular driver several times ignored his flag signals. So, as the cars returned to the pits/paddock the flag marshal leaned forward and tapped the driver on his helmet. The driver complained to Race Control but once the circumstances were fully explained, his complaint was studiously ignored!

Would that we could still have such instant justice!
