Chris: 1999 Goodwood Revival meeting

I missed out on the very first Goodwood Revival meeting and seeing the wonderful Sussex circuit and all those fantastic cars basking in the late September sunshine on TV meant that I was determined not to miss out the following year.

Fully kitted out in a 50's tweed suit and trilby I arrived on the Saturday ready to bask in the same wonderful atmosphere. No sunshine though - instead torrential rain. I was caught out on the far side of the circuit but dull and depressing it was not.

Sir Stirling Moss, celebrating his 70th birthday thundered by in his Maserati 250f with spray shooting 20, 30 feet into the air setting the fastest lap of the day at that time - a sight I will never forget.

Getting wetter and wetter as I trudged further around the circuit I arrived at Lavant corner in time to see the fantastic site of a Mark II Jaguar fish-tailing wildly as it took the lead exiting onto the long Lavant straight.

My final memory of the day was passing a very bedraggled George Harrison in the narrow tunnel under the main straight.

Just like the rain, Goodwood is a wonderful shared experience, and if you are a fan of Motor sport and haven't been - you absolutely must!
