Suzi Perry: a newcomer to Formula One broadcasting

Formula 1

I’ve been to see a few F1 races as a fan, including the Monaco Grand Prix, but I felt a lot more comfortable being there this year with a microphone in my hand. The first few races of the season were very daunting for me. There is an awful lot to take on board when you are joining a team that is so well established and containing lots of characters. Then of course there were all the race teams, team principals and manager and the drivers to begin to forge working relationships with. I had to be extremely focused and it wasn’t until we got to Monaco that I kind of took a deep breath and thought; actually I quite like doing this!

The Hungarian Grand Prix has been my favourite race to date. I thought Lewis was outstanding. As a British broadcasting team, to have a Brit stood on the top of the podium is always going to be a real thrill. I’ve been watching Lewis quite closely this year and with great interest to see how he changed from previous years. It’s been very enjoyable talking to him and interviewing him whilst he is being so relaxed. In terms of memorable places, Singapore was just magical, unlike the actual race itself!
