The car I'm racing at the Silverstone Classic is a Team Lotus car. It is a Lotus 18 and there were 6 of them in 1960. The team leader was Innes Ireland and the new boy was Jim Clark. Both of them drove the car I am racing in, Innes for five races and Jim six.
A lap of Silverstone in the car can best be described as hairy! I have a Formula Junior with exactly the same chassis, that has a 1.1 litre engine in it and is beautifully balanced, whereas the 18 has a 2.5 litre Coventry Climax engine in the back which is completely different. When I climb into the Junior I think where the hell has the engine gone, whereas in the 18 it's manic.
I raced a bit back in 1964, which is where my hero worship of Jim Clark comes from, to drive this car in very competitive races (and sometimes in thunderstorms as we did last night) is just tremendous.
