Thomas Redpath: 2008 British Grand Prix

It was the 2008 British Grand Prix. The year Lewis Hamilton won, in style! I remember trying to decide whether or not to go to a friend's sleepover (I was only 10 at the time) or watch the F1 live. My Mum convinced me to go to the sleepover and she said she would record it on the VHS recorder, yes we still used VHS in my house then.

I then got in on the Sunday night and wouldn't talk to anyone in case they accidently told me the result, I put on the tape and fast forwarded to the start. I remember holding my breath as Hamilton passed two cars into the first corner then (if I remember correctly) passing Kovalainen into Maggots and Beckets. Lots happened in between but all I can remember is hearing that Hamilton was leading by over a minute! Then Hamilton went off! He went over the grass at one of the corners and that was the worst moment of my 10 year old life. Then the flag dropped and Hamilton won the race, the only time I was happier on a race weekend that year was when he won the championship. What a weekend I had, I must re-watch it sometime!
