Sarah McEneaney: The sound, smell and power of Formula 1

My best & unfortunately my only taste of F1 was last year in Dublin.

At Bavaria City Racing. Giedo Van Der Garde in Caterham & Jenson Button in a McLaren were the main attraction. I was buzzing with excitement waiting for the first one to pass as we sat front row on a cold, wet miserable weather. Frozen to the bone with black bin liners covering our jeans to keep warm. As Jenson approached we could follow his course on the big screens but you could hear him miles away before he got close, the sound and smell as he approached was just electric. Geido was next again you could hear him before you seen him. He drove at high enough speed suddenly braking pass us the sound deafening. On Jenson's second approach he drove quite close to where we were sitting and as he got closer I gave him his signal W with my fingers and my partner on his camera got a great picture looking right at us. Wet and cold we walked a couple of miles back to our car but the adrenaline was still pumping through my veins of the excitement of seeing the power of these F1 Cars. Some day I'll afford to cross the Irish Sea and go to the British Grand Prix. It's on my bucket list.

My first time changing a tyre on a F1 car was a Bavaria City Racing in Dublin. There was a fan zone with McLaren cars and a pit stop experience for the fans. My partner and I bashfully went up and got gloves and protective glasses on. I took the gun and Colin the wheel. It was amazing as I pressed the button the power was immense and the nut went flying and rolled away! Doh! I tried it again but to little success. Don't thing I'll be hired in the future as a pit crew member!
